2016 Year in Review!

Here are a few highlights on whats been happening this year!

The AVMBA has been running multiple fundraising initiatives to raise funds to cover insurance so that the public can access trails, funds to replace unsafe boardwalks and more!

In 2016 fundraising initiatives included: BBQ's at local MTB races, a pool jump jam at Kentville Memorial Pool, and a 50/50 fundraiser.
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the AVMBA!

Trail and MTB Advocacy

Being 'a positive voice' for mountain biking and trails in the Annapolis Valley is our mission. This year we were present at the Greenwood Wing Welcome, promoting local trails and our association.

We also volunteered to do bicycle safety inspections / basic tune-ups at two bicycle rodeos in West Hants.

Woodville Hiking Trails

'The Links' AKA The Woodville Hiking Trails is the largest trail system the the AVMBA maintains.

Keeping the trails clear of windfall is a big job!

Anima Mundi

This trail system located on the Gaspereau Mountain is one of the hidden gems of the Annapolis Valley.

Here we replaced an old bridge that crossed over this brook with a nice wide and low boardwalk. Thanks to NS Health and Wellness for the grant that allowed us to complete this project!

Anima Mundi got a new approximately 1.5 km trail as well this year. This project was funded through NS Health and Wellness. A nice addition to the trail system!

The snow late this spring made for an easy removal of this old boardwalk. We strive to keep our forests clean and enjoyable for all!

MEC Dirt Search Conest

The Annapolis Valley Mountain Bike Association has been selected to participant in a grant contest put on by Mountain Equipment Co-op. Their "Dirt Search Contest" will award two bike associations, one in Western Canada and one in the East with a $10,000 grant for the trail project of their choice!

I'm pretty stoked that the AVMBA is in the finalists, we will have a 1 in 12 shot at winning the grant! Pretty good odds! But... we need your help. This will be an online vote so the more you vote the better our chances. The group with the most votes wins. You'll be able to vote every day for 5 weeks.
The trail project we've chosen is to build a new school "flow trail" filled up with berms, rollers, table top jumps, and other fun features. It's going to be awesome and assessable for riders of all ages. New riders will be able to roll down the trail with a smile on their face and experienced rippers will be finding tons of ways to get some air time! Basically a mini resort style trail.

Vote AVMBA! Vote daily, get your dog to vote, your cat, your dentist, every one you can find

Some long overdue updates...

Hey folks,

There has not been much activity on our blog as of late but that doesn't mean that there hasn't been much activity on the trails! So lets bring everyone all  back up to speed...

Whats been going on this spring:

• Trail work continues on the new bike park in Wolfville. Two short loops are now open and a third longer loop is expected to open shortly. After the current loop that is under construction is completed work will be starting on the huge skills park! Yippie!!

• There have been two mountain bike races held in The Valley already this year. One Enduro at The Gorge in Kentville and one at The Links in Woodville. At every race we have been hosting a BBQ thanks to donations from Al's Homestyle Sausage and The Fireside Cafe in Canning. All proceeds go towards supporting the AVMBA's trail work.

• The next MTB race in the area will be held at The Gorge on the August 31 - September 2 weekend. Check out for more details. There will be an XC team relay and points series XC race plus lots of other fun events.

• AVMBA group rides are back! Keep eye on our Facebook page for locations. Most ride happen Wednesday nights and typically start around 6:00 or 6:30

• Wait.. you not an AVMBA member? Why not?! It' only runs you $20 and every little bit helps keep local trails in great shape. Drop in to Valley Stove & Cycle in Wolfville and pick up a membership form today or ask a AVMBA board member.

• Construction of a small skills park us underway at The Gorge in Kentville. This will be a great little warm up area for you to play on before you hit the trails. Sweet!

• The Trips for Kids Annapolis Valley program continues this year thanks to generous donations and grants. Check out all the TFK rides and events at

• Bikes are awesome, as always.
